Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
The Culinary Arts Instructor is responsible for lecture and/or laboratory instruction in Riverside Culinary Academy courses. The assignment may also include other courses in the discipline.

The ideal candidate will share RCC's and the department of Applied Technology commitment to educating its racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population. The college currently enrolls nearly 30,000 students annually, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. 60% of RCC's students are Hispanic, 8% are African-American, 7% are Asian American, 0.3% are Native American, 0.7% are Pacific Islander, 21% are White, and 2% are multiracial. Riverside City College has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and Black Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic wellbeing of the surrounding community.

EDUCATION:
A minimum of an Associate's degree from an accredited institution. Certified Culinary Educator (CCE) from the American Culinary Federation (ACF) is preferred. Certified Executive Chef (CEC) or higher-level certification is also preferred. (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited institutions.)

EXPERIENCE:
1. A minimum of six (6) years of full-time industry experience is required. A minimum of two (2) of those years should be as an executive chef running a culinary establishment is preferred.
2. Must possess experience in organizing banquets and catering special events.
3. One year of teaching experience in culinary arts is required.
4. Community college or baccalaureate level teaching experience is also desired.
5. Membership in the ACF and other professional organizations preferred.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
1. ServSafe Manager Certification and Instructor/ Proctor certification required.
2. Note: Certified Culinary Educator is required within the first year of employment.
3. ACF (American Culinary Federation) Certified Culinary Educator is preferred.
4. Certified Executive Chef/Certified Executive Pastry Chef or higher-level certification is also preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. The instructional assignment will include lecture and laboratory classes in the discipline.
2. The assignment included responsibility for functioning as a member of the Applied Technology team; networking with private industry and other agencies to develop partnerships and apprenticeships; marketing the Culinary Arts Program to feeder high schools and the community; and providing career guidance and support for culinary students seeking to enter this occupational area.
3. Assignments are based upon the assumption of workload of forty hours weekly, including but not limited to conducting classes, class preparation, evaluation of students, committee work, curriculum and program development, and student activities.
4. Other responsibilities include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
5. Supervising student organizations and co-curricular activities is expected of all faculty members.
6. Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours and completing 24 hours of 'flex credit' through various available activities and seminars.
7. Faculty will participate in outcomes assessment work.
8. Institutional service activities are expected of all faculty members.
9. Participation in discipline/department decision making processes and work regarding curriculum, program development and other matters is expected.
10. Teaching assignment may include early morning (e.g., 7:00am) day, evening, online, hybrid, and/or off campus classes.

Duties and Responsibilities - Continued:
1. This is a 12-month, tenure track, position with a load of 3.0 FTE.
2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column B, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and dependents.
4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
6. Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.
7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in community activities and active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and liaison with appropriate civic professional groups.

Conditions of Employment:
NOTE: This is a long-term temporary, non-tenure track position only and will terminate after the end of the 2026-2027 academic year. There is no guarantee that this position will be funded after the 2026-2027 academic year. Being offered and accepting this long-term temporary position in no way implies that an interview will be granted for any subsequent full-time positions, nor does it imply any 'inside track' to such a position.
