DEPARTMENT: Student Life POSITION/TITLE: Director of Campus Engagement & Leadership LOCATION: Mars Hill, NC SUPERVISOR: Associate Vice President/Dean of Students SCOPE: The Director of Campus Engagement & Leadership is responsible for leading robust Student Life programs by championing co-curricular opportunities for students. The Director is knowledgeable about today’s students, and facilitates meaningful avenues for involvement, engagement, and transformation that are demonstrated by a vibrant Student Life Program. The Director not only serves as a point of information for students, but also partners with faculty to help students adjust, learn, and thrive in an educational environment. The Director oversees the Coordinator of Student Activities and together they serve as the advisors to all student organizations and student leadership teams. The Director works under the guidance of the AVP/Dean of Students and is a key position in shaping the future of Mars Hill University culture. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: · Although the job is somewhat sedentary in nature, the position also requires the ability to engage with students, faculty and staff after hours and on weekends – and as such, requires some movement TRAVEL/TIME REQUIREMENTS: · A normal 40-hour workweek is required, with work on evenings or Saturdays · On-call duty MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s degree required and a master’s degree in higher education-related field preferred. · Ability to work well with a diverse population of students, parents, alumni, faculty and staff, and be enthusiastic about working in a team-oriented environment. · Knowledge of higher education, student life, and student development theory, and ability to train staff in multicultural student development models. · Excellent communication skills required (ability to clearly express ideas and concepts orally and in writing). · Strong skills in advising, programming, assisting student development, and communication. · Demonstrated ability to benchmark and use data to inform the development of best practices. · Strong commitment to the values of diversity and human compassion. · Demonstrated understanding of changing student needs and ability to articulate these needs to the university community. · Able to maintain a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as necessary. · Commitment to working in collaboration with senior administrators, other university colleagues, direct reports, faculty, and board members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: · Provide oversight, vision, and direction for Campus Engagement & Leadership, including oversight for: Clubs/Organizations, Student Government Association, Campus Activities Board, Inter Greek Council, Intramurals, the Recreation Center, and Outdoor Programs. · Supervise one professional staff, several part time roles, and over 50 student leader or student volunteer positions. · Provide oversight in the planning and execution of Lion Life events and Lion’s Roar (orientation), including the hiring, selection, training and supervision of Lion Leaders · Provide oversight in the planning and execution of major student university activities (eg. Welcome Week, Homecoming Week, Christmas events like Tree Lighting and Parade, Lions Fest Week, Late Night Breakfast, etc.) · Provide oversight in the planning and execution of regular student activities on campus, thus creating an atmosphere and spirit of campus engagement · Oversees Marketing plans, publications, and website design/content related to Campus Engagement & Leadership · Develop and implement a Student Leadership summit for emerging student leaders · Collaborate with key offices across campus · Adheres to guidelines in the University Personnel & Safety Handbooks and departmental policies · Assists the Vice President of Student Life and AVP/DOS with strategic planning for Student Life · Completes special projects as needed or assigned EMPLOYEE BENEFITS: For more information concerning benefits offered to MHU employees, see the MHU Benefits Summary on the MHU website.
